When Dr. Rhonda Coleman envisioned The Healing Garden, she envisioned a space where communities of color could experience healing and remedies reminiscent of our grandparents’ and great grandparents’ root medicine. The Healing Garden is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization located in Aurora, Colorado, offering preventive health education and wellness programs. It is also a medical home to a collective of professional natural health providers. Our center for natural holistic and alternative health education is rooted in African ancestral wisdom. We exist to reconnect community members with their innate ability to heal and be well. It is our mission to cultivate a culture of holistic health in Aurora and the Northeast neighborhoods of Denver, Colorado with particular attention to African-Americans and other people of color. To address the disproportionate rates in which African Americans (AA) suffer from a broad range of dis-ease (e.g. diabetes, kidney disease, high blood pressure, stroke), we aim to improve physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health for ALL people, with a strong focus on AA health in the greater Denver metro area, specifically NE Denver and Aurora, CO, as these areas have the lowest concentration of natural health providers in relation to the target population.
We envision a community where families are thriving as cooperative units and contributing to the community in a way that promotes happiness, health, prosperity, and unity.
